General Information

The Rhino is a ship that was added in the Supernova DLC.

Being a cargo ship, it is not responsive as the more agile ones, but compensates for its gargantuan amount of hull armor and cargo space, as well as a turret slot, but cannot equip primary weapons.

One should exclusively use it for mining and trading, but never combat.

Trivia

  • The Rhino and Cormorant are the only ships without primary weapons.
    • In its concept art, there is space for primary weapons.
  • The Rhino has the lowest handling, highest cargo space and highest armor in the game.
  • In its concept art, its name was referred as "Terran Dropship," and is also referred as "dropship" in Supernova Mission 5.
  • It is clear to see the gigantic cargo bay doors at the side of the ship, which seems to be able of containing cargo the size of a Betty.
  • If the Rhino has its cargo hold and equipment slots upgraded at Kaamo and then has a Rhoda Blackhole mounted in every slot, its maximum possible cargo capacity is 5610t.
  • This is the only Terran ship introduced in the DLC.
    • However, the player does not need to advance story progress to the Supernova's eruption as it can spawn anytime at anywhere if one has the Supernova DLC.
  • The Rhino has probably not taken over the Terran Freighter as it still has less capacity and is less practical, even if its limited fighting capabilities are taken into account.
  • It appears as an NPC ship in 2 Supernova missions.
    • In Mission 5, it is used to evacuate personnel from Tadram Station to a Terran carrier. In Mission 17, under orders from Brent Snocom, Hans used a Rhino to transport 1000 Energy cells for Valkrie.
    • Since Rhino only has 9 Equipment Slots, it's highly likely that the Terrans themselves somehow managed to modify the ship for installation of 10 large cabins. They in this mission also have a turret that uses the sprite of Hammerhead D2A2 for defensive purposes, although it functions similar to the Berger AGT 20MM instead, as the pilot can't use the turret when flying.
    • The Rhino Piloted by Hans seems have some cargo compressors to expand its overall capacity, as its base cargo hold is 480.
  • It is the largest controllable ship. When viewing this ship while in-flight, in a station hangar, or the info box will take up almost the entire screen.
    • Ship codes like "443" can be seen on the sides, above the cargo bay doors.
    • It is also the ship that has the most engines in the game, with a total of 9.
    • If you look closely on the underside of the ship, there appears to be a tractor beam near the nose and a set of 3 landing legs retracted into the hull. Which could hint this ship is actually VTOL, because if you look closely at the engines, it appears to have some sort of rotation device behind it that allows it to shift it’s engines.
