"Caution! Extreme mode is intended for experienced players who have already completed the game and are seeking a new challenge." - Warning Dialogue Box

Extreme difficulty is a game mode in Galaxy on Fire 2, and has altered game mechanics than Normal, Hard, and the now-obsolete Easy difficulties. The changes to the game mode are as follows:

  • Hitting a target required more precision in aiming.
  • Cargo quantity is now inversely proportional to handling, instead of having no effect.
  • Neutral factions will become hostile quicker if fired upon by the player (save for wingmen), so your reputation is much more vulnerable.
  • Credits are no longer rewarded for earning medals.
  • Khador Drive energy cost doubled.
  • Minerals can no longer be purchased and must be harvested from other sources.
  • Bribes for docking at space stations are much more expensive (regular bribes are ~2000$, while extreme bribes are upward of 25k$)
  • Wingmen cost more to hire.
  • 10% of a freelance mission's reward will always be deducted upon acceptance, effectively reducing the reward to 90%.
  • Secure systems are also susceptible to Pirate attacks[1].
  • Pirates and hostile factions appear in much larger swarms during attacks.
  • Nukes will damage your ship for a fraction of their specified value if they are detonated too close to you, but EMPs and Mines work as they would have, not damaging or stunning the player's ship.
  • Aborting a mining session will only yield half of what's acquired.
  • Goods are no longer available in extremely large quantities in shops or from freighters and are typically capped at a couple dozen at the absolute most. (In lower difficulties, it's possible to get 100+ Niral Products from the Valkyrie storyline mission where Alice demands you to kill some arms dealers)
  • The tutorial can no longer be skipped.
  • Completing the Supernova storyline unlocks the Specter for purchase at Katashán station immediately.

Despite extreme mode being as its name suggests, it is not as formidable as it sounds. Complete the game even without deaths or game glitches would still be straightforward.

User Mk.558 from the DSFishlabs forum completed the base game in extreme mode with only a Wasp, after the Betty missions (Missions 1-6). The forum post can be found here.

  1. Wolf-Reiser, Beidan and Kammo (if owned) are exceptions.
