In-Game Description

Biomass is an edible substance for sentient beings and animals; it is a renewable raw material and an energy source all rolled into one.

This is one dollar cheaper than Space Waste, which is 4 dollars, making biowaste the 2nd cheapest item in the game before Basic Food.
