I guess that cannon was used to fight against similar-sized targets (vossk battlecruiser etc.); player-controlled ships (and security guards) are at most the size of a real-world corvette (the naval ship, not the car), and given the size of the cruiser, it is more of a wonder if the two capital-grade turrets can hit a thing unless the targeted ship is sitting perfectly still, which is not that likely. I mean, it is not that common to see WWII cruisers and battleships shooting down enemy planes with their main cannons. (Granted, there *is* the Japanese San-Shiki beehive round, but they are not exactly an effective weapon for anything other than shore bombardment). Also, even if those guns can be used, I'm quite sure there would still be huge blind spots on both flanks plus the dorsal/ventral side; and given how the battlefied is set up (ships jump into melee range by default), it's not that likely if the cannon would be useful at all even if it can fire. Still, granted, you would NOT want to be hit by that thing - if it is a heavy laser/railgun turret, it will be a one-hit kill; if it is a heavy scattergun, it will take down a suqadron if the salvo connects.
