Description
Plasma is a commodity added in the Supernova DLC. Plasma comes in four varieties with Green Plasma being the cheapest and Red Plasma being the most expensive and most difficult to transport. Green Plasma is found near the Midorian border, Blue Plasma can be found near Aquila and Prospero, Purple Plasma is found in the region near Pescal Inartu, while Red Plasma exists exclusively in deep Vossk territory.
This map shows exactly which systems have each kind of plasma. Those represented by a white sphere do not have any plasma at all.
Harvesting
Before leaving the hangar, you must have a ship that can mount a turret . Equip it for plasma harvest:
- Secondary Weapon: Ionizing Missiles to ionize the plasma for collection.
- Turret: Plasma Collector to collect the ionized plasma.
- Equipment: Spectral Filter to be able to locate and accurately target the plasma clouds.
For each cloud:
- Aim the ship directly toward cloud center
- Switch to Turret Mode to make sure turret is facing forward, centered on the cloud
- Switch back to forward view and set speed to 100%. Keep the ship aimed at the center.
- When the HUD shows the cloud center is 1.8 km away, fire mk1(2) rocket
- When it shows 1.5 km away from the cloud detonate the rocket (press Secondary Weapon fire again) from beyond the cloud. This will cause the ionized plasma to be blasted towards the ship, rather than scattered omnidirectionally.
- Immediately switch to Turret Mode to collect plasma. The plasma should all be sucked into the collector within a second or two, but...
- If any ionized plasma globules fly past the ship, turn the collector turret 180 degrees (facing backwards) and aim it at any remaining plasma.
Alternative method.
- Find Gas Cloud with more than 3.0 km. Aim the ship at the center of the Gas Cloud.
- Shoot the missile at 2.9 km - 3.0 km.
- Switch to Turret Mode and aim forward.
- Wait for the missile to explode. If the shooting distance is right, it’s possible to get at least 70 plasma per missile without even changing the turret’s aim (even with PE Ambipolar-5).
