I just re-read this: "Strictly speaking, a wiki is an encyclopedia"

No, strictly speaking, a wiki is a website designed for easy/quick collaborative editing.  Wikipedia is a portmanteau of Wiki+(encyclo)pedia, which is so successful that it has inspired many other wikis to be encyclopedic to some degree, but it is not strictly necessary for a wiki to be an encyclopedia. 

That having been said, I prefer the encyclopedic tone in most cases, especially when we're presenting facts objectively observable by anyone who plays the game.
