I disagree on pronouns.  While there's nothing wrong with "the player" in many scenarios, in most cases, "he" should be fine, because it's describing the actions the player takes as "Keith T. Maxwell", and for old-school grammarians like me, the masculine gender is grammatically appropriate for a person of indeterminite biological gender.
